Fantasy Recap – Jan 19 – I’m down with Downie

Trends to Continuing Watching from Tonight:

Josh Bailey: 13 points in 9 games include a goal tonight. Nuff said.  This kid is a true monster right now.

Matt Cullen: Expect him to be in the playoffs when another team picks him up at the trade-deadline. He had a goal tonight and 8 points in his last 9 games.

Steve Downie: Fantasy owners must love this kid.  He’ll either score like he did tonight or, get you a bunch of PIMs. Win-win player.

Waiver Fodder

Matt Moulson: After going quiet for most of December he’s picking up the pace with 6 points in his last 7.

Eye on the Puck – Jan 18 – The Lesser Brodeur

Trends to Continue Watching Tonight:

Alexander Steen: A surprise emergence from the Blues, Steen has 15 points in the last month.  He’s slowed down a little bit, but does have 4 points in his last 3 games.

Patric Hornqvist: His ownership is almost at 50% meaning I may stop mentioning one of my favorite players to watch this season. No surprise he has 9 points in the last 7 games and is playing at the Olympics.

Guillaume Latendress: With his speed I’m not surprised that he’s taking his game to the next level in Minnesota. He has 19 points in 24 games since being traded and 12 points in his last 8 games.

Waiver Fodder:

Mike Brodeur: The lesser known goalie with the famous last name has won his 3 starts for Ottawa.   Maybe there is just something about that name.

Josh Baily: His 7 game streak came to an end last game. He had 12 points over that span and I think he’s worth keeping around for a few to see if he starts up again.

Steve Downie: He should be written down on list of players you want to own in fantasy hockey. He has 6 points and 25 PIMs in the last 7 games.

Matt Cullen: I last mentioned his name in a trade and I still think that’s going to come as we approach the deadline.  In the meantime pick him up because he has 6 points in his last 7 games.

Eye on the Puck – Jan 10 – Up for Auction

Trends to Watch for Tonight:

Ray Whitney: The ageless Whitney has 5 point in his last 5 games. Given Carolina’s play and Whitney’s experience expect to see him move to a contender closer to the trade deadline.

Matt Cullen: The fire sale in Carolina will probably include Cullen. He has 7 points in his last 6 games.

Teemu Selanne: He’s back in the Anaheim line-up. Check to see who he is playing with and expect him to get moved to a contender as we get closer to the trade deadline.

Waiver Fodder

Raffi Torres: He’s back form an injury and has 3 points in his last 2 games.

Fantasy Hockey – Jan 10 – The Resurection of Christensen

Trends to continue Watching from Tonight:

Teemu Selanne: Selanne was playing great before his injury. In his first game back he has a goal.

Jochen Hecht: The Sabres are near the top of the East due to great coaching and players stepping up from deep in the line-up. Hecht has 6 points in his last 5 games. He’s a great pick-up because he can fill two spots on the team.

Patrick Hornqvist: 16 points in his last 13 games. Enough said.

Mikael Samuelsson: 7 points in 7 games since not being announced to the Swedish Olympic team. Look’s like he’s banking on making it as an injury replacement.

Waiver Fodder:

Erik Christensen: Looks like he’s finding his spot in the league.  Anaheim was far too patient with him, but with the Rangers how he has 6 points in his last 7 games.

Josh Bailey: I’m giving him a strong buy rating with 8 points in his last 6 games.

Eric Belanger: He’ll get you face-off wins at the very least, but Belanger has managed  4 points in the last 4 games.

Troy Brouwer: Seeing time on the power play, Brouwer had a PPG last game to give him 6 points in 7 games.

Eye on the Puck – Jan 9 – Game Night

Trends to Watch for Tonight:

Todd Bertuzzi: He’s keeping the Red Wings on the edge of the playoff picture with 12 points in the last 13 games. Look for other players to start making their way back into the line-up.

Tyler Myers: He had a 3 point game last-night. Its the second night in a row he is playing, but I don’t expect him to let up the gas anytime soon.

Jaroslav Halak: I still think he should be Montreal’s number one goalie without a doubt. Tonight will be a real test of a game if he gets the start.

Waiver Fodder:

James van Riemsdyk: Looks like he’s coming back to form with a current 3 game point streak.

Alexander Steen: He’s showing some spark with 10 points in the last 9.  Let’s see how this St. Louis team makes it through the second part of the season.

Michal Handzus: 5 points in 5 games. Owners should be concerned with LA fading out of a playoff spot.

Eric Christensen: The move to the Big Apple is paying off as a previously impotent Christensen suddenly has 5 points in his last 5.

Eric Belanger: The center man is starting to pick up the pace with 3 goals in his last 3 games. What keeps him on my radar is that he’ll pick up face-off wins too.

Miroslav Satan: With Savard and Bergeron out expect him to start seeing a lot of playing time.

Fantasy Recap – Jan 9 – Tyler Myers

Trends to Continue Watching from Tonight:

Steve Downie: I reiterate the point I made before tonight’s game: he’s PIM streak ends but his point streak starts. He’s at 4 points in 3 games.

Tyler Myers: The Sabres are having a great season and Myers is a good part of it. He has 7 points in 6 games.

Waiver Fodder:

Josh Bailey: With 6 points in 5 games the Islanders have another youngster to be happy about.

Raffi Torres: He seems to have recovered from his injury and has 4 points in his last 5 games.

Fantasy Recap – Jan 8 – #FollowFriday Edition

Trends to Watch for Tonight:

Steve Downie: Oddly enough as soon as his PIM streak ended his point streak started. He may only have 3 points in the last 2 games, but he seems to be collecting multiple stats for owners, which increases his value.

Waiver Fodder:

Jochen Hecht: I seem him being added and dropped as a filler, which is exactly what I recommend everyone to do at this point. He has 5 points in the last 3 games and is eligible for multiple positions on your roster.

Daymond Langkow: Anyone who can connect with Iginla will do well. Langkow has earned 5 points in the last 4 games just doing that.

Jon Sim: He has as streak every year and this seems to be it right now. He has 4 goals in his last 5 games. I wouldnt count on it lasting too much longer, but cash in while you can.

Rob Schremp: 5 points in his last 5 games it looks like this Islander’s acquisition is starting to payoff.  Still be a few seasons and a few players  before him and Tavares can lead this team.

Fantasy Recap – Jan 8 – Return of the Riemsdyk

Trends to Continue Watching:

Patric Hornqvist: Yeah I’m a big fanboy of Hornqvist but he’s earned it with 13 points in his last 12 games.  The 6 PIMs however were a bonus and not the norm.

Waiver Fodder:

James van Riemsdyk: Ok, he had a horrible pointless streak after his injury and the Fliers suck. However, over the last 3 games he has 6 points. Many dropped him so he should be available and worth trying for a week.

Miroslav Satan: Many are still skeptical about his play. He scored a goal last game and will be counted on to score more often with Patrice Bergeron and Marc Savard out.

Colin Fraser: This little known Blackhawk won’t score everynight, but he does have 6 points in the last 6 games.  He’s playing well with Tomas Kopecky, but is also contributing with other well known players. He also collected some PIMs for fighting.

Fantasy Recap – Jan 6 – Staal’s Graduation

Trends to Continue Watching from Tonight:

Patrick Hornqvist: 12 points in 11 games and people are starting to notice as his ownership has increased to 10% in Yahoo Leagues.  Important to note is that even though Nashville lost he still played well.

Jordan Staal: He scored twice tonight and is now owned in more than 50% of Yahoo Fantasy Leagues.  This mean’s he’s too well known for me to talk about him anymore and has graduated this blog, but don’t forget the mix of points and face-offs he brings.

Waiver Fodder:

Daymond Langkow: The Flame’s win streak continues and so does Langkow’s point streak. He has 5 points in 3 games a majority of which came while playing with Jarome Iginla.

Lee Stempniak: The Leaf had a goal tonight giving him 5 points in his last 4 games.  I still think he’s under performing , but I would be surprised if he does play much better.

Troy Brouwer: With a great team around him Brouwer is benefiting and has 4 points in the last 5 games: 3 goals and 1 assist.

Eye on the Puck – Jan 5 – The Olympic Scorn

Trends to watch for Tonight:

Loui Eriksson: Most will realize by now Eriksson is the real deal, especially with 40 points in in 41 games. His previous high was 63 in 82. That being said I bring him up as it looks like at 24 he’s taking a step to another level. Keep him in mind for next season’s draft.

Patrik Hornqvist: Moving fast off the waiver wire Hornqvist has 11 points in his last 10 games. Ofcourse, because you’ve been reading this blog you probably already picked him up in early December. ;)

Mikael Samuelsson: The Olympic Scorn continues as Samuelsson continues to rack up points consistently after not being named to Team Sweden.  Having him in combination with Mason Raymond would ensure you have all of Vancouver’s secondary scoring.

Jordan Staal: 5 points in 6 games is a good pace for most fantasy owners; however, what pushes Staal over the top is his ability to rack up face-offs. Keep secondary categories like SOG, FW’s and +/-. (email me for a translation as to what all that means)

Steven Reinprecht: You’ve already read about this Panther on this blog, but he’s resurfacing because he has 2 goals in his last 2 games giving him 30 points on the season. He could hit 60.

Waiver Fodder:

Radek Dvorak: The hat-trick last game caught my attention what kept me looking is that he’s in the midst of his second 4+ game point streak in the last month.

Daymond Langkow: I used to be upset due to Langkow’s inability to click with Iginla, but last game against Toronto the two  had 3 points each on the same plays. Langkow also had 9 points in his last 10 games.

Joel Ward: He’s on his second 3 game point streak in the last month with 4 points. As long as the Predators keep playing at their current pace expect players like Ward to play well.

Craig Conroy: The Flames are on a 5 game winning streak and Controy has points in 4 of those games. He seems to be benefiting from Rene Bourque’s hot play.

* Craig Conroy may be out with an undisclosed injury.  Please check  status before the game.
