Eye on the Puck – Nov 11

Edmonton vs Buffalo

Dustin Penner has been red hot for his team, but with Ales Hemsky out and Sam Gagner not putting in the next, it will take players such as Ethan Moreau and Nikolai Khabibulan to step up their games. Derek Roy has shaken is season starting slump, Tomas Vanek is showing signs of life, meaning they have three threatening players providing offense when you include Tim Connolly.  I’m still a Clarke McArthur fan, he’s up on the scoreboard, unlike Drew Stafford.

Anaheim vs New Jersey

Anaheim has been keeping games a lot closer as of late due to the play of Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf.  Teamu Selanne, an old favorite, is providing some veteran support by putting away an extra goal here and there, but is not the fantasy stalwart he once was.  Martin Brodeur is still looking for that illusive shutout record, which he may not get tonight, but has a good shot at the win with Brain Rolston, Niklas Bergfors (wait till Patrick Elias gets back) and Zach Parise playing the way they are.

NY Islanders vs. Washington

Brooks Laich
as 18 points and like many of the role-players that are over looked, when Alexander Ovechkin is in the line-upl, he stepping up.  Nicklas Backstrom leads the team with 21 points.  Tomas Fleischmann, who i’ve been raving about (yes I have him on my teams) continues to be  a viable temporary fill in.  Also pay attention for the play of Brian Pothier and Jeff Schulz.  Jeff Tambilini is still a viable fantasy option in deeper leagues (every team has to have one player doing well) so is Frans Nielson as of late.  Richard Park is not winning enough face-offs to be considered a category specialist.

Los Angeles vs Carolina

Injuries to Cam Ward and Eric Stall only maginfy the poor play of this Carolina team.  Paul, take someone out back and shoot them already!  A healthy scratch. A call out in the media. Something!  This team is way too talented to remain in this slump. I wouldnt start any please from Carolina tonight.  Potential easy scoring for Anze Kopitar, Ryan Smith, Jarret Stall and Dustin Brown.  But, I’m keeping an eye on Drew Daughty who is a good replacement for Sergei Gonchar (if he’s still available)

Detroit vs Columbus

Detroit can’t play any worse than they did Saturday against Toronto. Expect Pavel Datsyuk, Henrick Zetterberg and Tomas Holmstrom to step up their play to make up for a bad night.  Nicklas Lidstrom has a perfect opportunity to show why he’s the captain of such a skilled team.  With Derek Brassard and R.J Umberger playing well Columbus finds itself with two solid lines.  Jason Chimera has been a benefactor of this scoring points and picking up PIMs.  X-factor in this game is going to be the play of Chris Osgood; will he show up tonight.  Might be a good chance to get Johnny Howard in net.

Chicago vs Colorado

Johnathan Toews returned to spark his team, engaging Patrick Sharp and Troy Brouwer. The latter is virtually unheard of making him a great fantasy stock to buy now or keep an eye on.  I’m pretty sure we’re going to start seeing the Chicago team we liked last year.  Expect players such as Cam Barker, Brian Campbell to have a slight increase in their game.  Brent Sopel cant be doing any worse, but that doesnt mean he’s going to do much better. Wojtek Wolski is looking hot and so is Paul Stastny. Those two are must starts. Ryan O’Reily dropped from his initial surge, but I’d still play him 3rd or 4th center on my fantasy team.  He could have a huge upswing.  People seem to like the way Kyle Quincey is playing, with 10 points, so I’m going to drop his name here.
