Scraping the Barrel

If you’re like me you’re probably facing a lot of injuries in your line up, and are looking for those bottom of the barrel players that most would never think of. Here’s my daily review of players still available in most Yahoo Fantasy Leagues that are worth checking out.

1. Mason Raymond, LW (VAN), %5 Owned: Get his kid NOW because he’s about all Vancouver has left after a barrage of injuries. He started the season generating a lot of shots on goal and is now quickly starting the convert them.

2. Clarke MacArthur, LW (BUF), %9 Owned: Joked in my fantasy draft that this guy would become the new Drew Stafford, the little engine that never could. The punchline is I drafted him and been proven wrong. He’s a fast player on a fast team well worth checking out in deeper leagues.

3. James van Riemsdyk, LW (PHI), %17 Owned: He’s skating on the top line with Jeff Carter, and scoring more than a point a game; enough said.

4. Ryan O’Reilly, C (COL), %13 Owned: Like the rest of the Colorado Avalanche, everyone is probably wondering where this kid came from. Doesn’t matter. He’s here and he has 11 points and a +10 rating in 15 GP. 89 face off wins puts him in a higher tear of C-men (never will write it like that again), but his PPP is a little low (for now).

In really deep leagues:

Richard Park, RW (NYI), %1 Owned: This guys is a category specialist, who takes a large amount of face-offs. If those count this is your man. Note: His shots have also been increasing as of late.

Glen Metropolit, C (MON), %1 Owned: This seasoned journeyman is probably having the best season in his career as a Montreal Center. With all the attention paid to the big three (or is that the little three), he’s not getting the respect he’s earning.

Finally a word to people who wrote off Tomas Kaberele in the draft, 13 in 5 games. Don’t underrate him because he’s a Leaf. Good luck trying to pry him from the guy who has him.

[...] James Van Riemsdyk should also have a lung full of fresh air after being named rookie of the month (for the record I called owners to pick him up November 2nd). Ray Emery is proving himself decent, but I think we could see Brian Boucher challenge for first [...]
